Arizona Charitable Tax Credit Ending Soon

| December 10, 2011

Local nonprofit logosTime is running out to use the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit

Arizona tax filers have a great opportunity to donate to their favorite qualifying charities and receive a dollar-for-dollar reduction on their Arizona tax burden for donations made by December 31.

Qualifying organizations are nonprofit (501(c)(3) organizations that spend at least half of their budget on services, such as food, shelter, or medical care, to the working poor or to chronically ill or physically disabled children who are Arizona residents. Organizations that have shown the State that they meet the guidelines are provided with a certificate and listed on the Arizona Department of Revenue’s website. Donations to these agencies allow taxpayers to claim a tax credit — not a deduction — of $200 for single or head of household filers or $400 for married joint returns. The credit reduces your tax bill dollar-for-dollar.

Rarely do we have the opportunity to direct our tax dollars directly to the organizations we support. This year, many of these organizations have seen big funding cuts at the same time requests for their services have skyrocketed. Here are some of the local agencies listed on the Arizona DOR website as being eligible for 2011. These are representative – check the website for a complete listing.
