Annual Fun Run Raises Money for Childcare and Outreach

On March 3 the 2nd Annual Fun Run to raise funds for the Erik Hite Foundation will take place at Reid Park. Erik was a Tucson Police Officer who was fatally shot pursuing an armed suspect in June of 2008. The foundation that bears his name provides child care and support services to Tucson area law enforcement and emergency services personnel as well as active duty military personnel.

Officer Erik Hite

Erik retired from the Air Force prior to joining TPD. Virtually his entire adult life was spent in the service of country or community. Erik is survived by his wife Nohemy, and 2 children, Roy and Samantha. Nohemy says that the following best describes the Foundation:

The Erik Hite Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established to provide a child care center and family outreach programs for the children of Law Enforcement and Emergency Services personnel. The program serves both commissioned and non-commissioned personnel from agencies such as the Tucson Police Department, Pima County Sheriff’s Department, DPS, US Border Patrol, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Fire Department, and Active Duty Military personnel. We want to serve and care for their families following godly principles close to the heart of Erik, as these men and women serve and protect our community.

The event has both a 5K Fun Run and a 2 Mile Family Fun Walk beginning at 8:30am. Event information and registration is available online here.
