Tucson Senior Olympic Festival is “Game On” for Adults Over 50

| December 21, 2011

Senior Olympics LogoTucson’s 28th Annual 2012 Senior Olympic Festival will run from January 14 through January 29 at various locations in the Tucson area. There are dozens of scheduled competitions including archery, cycling, billiards, racquetball, numerous shooting events, swimming, track & field, and of course the phenomenon of Pickleball.  Many of the competitions have various age brackets – reaching into the 90s! –  and there are plenty of team play opportunities as well. Click here for a complete listing of events and venues (2012 event briefs).

The Senior Olympic Festival is a program of the Tucson Parks and Recreation Department. The Festival adds a friendly competitive aspect to Parks and Rec programs that celebrate and promote fitness for adults over 50. Parks and Rec also sponsors the Senior Olympic Activity Series, a year-round program promoting active lifestyles for adults and providing opportunities for newcomers to learn and practice new sports and activities.

Festival Program Coordinator Mike Davis told me that he is optimistic about a good turn out this year but that registration ends December 31st (late registration availalbe until Jan. 11), so get busy if you plan to add some trophies to the mantle. Volunteers are also needed to help stage and run the various events. For further information, please see the website at www.tucsonseniorgames.org or call the Festival office at 520-791-3244.

Make a resolution to make 2012 a healthier more engaged year! Happy Holidays!
